Skid-base chairs at Chairzone.ch

What is a skid-base chair?

A skid-base chair is a chair whose legs run in a continuous, closed form in so-called skids. This special design ensures a particularly high level of stability, an elegant look and a quiet sitting experience. Unlike classic four-legged or swivel chairs, the skid-base chair offers a floating presence that enhances modern rooms, and not just in terms of style.

Skid-base chairs can inspire working environments and thus support New Work furnishing concepts that are designed to increase the motivation and productivity of all employees. A designer skid-base chair can visually enhance a meeting room while providing the necessary stability and seating comfort for a pleasant working environment.

The shape with the characteristic sled base is not just a technical detail, but a design statement in rooms where you spend a lot of time. It gives the chair a clear line, reduces visual clutter and fits in perfectly with minimalist, Scandinavian or industrial furnishing styles.

Areas of application: From the office to the dining room

Skid-base chairs are real all-rounders. They are suitable for different areas of use and rooms. Even though they are very popular in offices and workspaces, that doesn't mean they can't also enhance our private feel-good spaces:

• Dining room: As a stylish dining chair with a metal sled base and a seat shell or seat surface made of easy-care material such as plastic, rattan or fabric.
• Living areas: As design objects with armrests, comfortable backrests, possible upholstery and a high level of seating comfort.
• Offices: As visitor chairs or conference chairs with a professional look, made of artificial or real leather, with upholstery for more comfort.
• Facilities: In waiting areas, lounges or reception zones with a particularly sturdy steel sled base for frequent use.

Thanks to their sturdy construction, comfortable seat and high-quality materials in the frame and seat, skid-base chairs are suitable for both private households and commercial use.

They are available in different versions, with a leather look, in different colors, materials for different levels of comfort and for easy or more complex maintenance:

• Wood: Warm wooden surfaces such as oak, combined with metal or stainless steel sled frames.
• Plastic and polypropylene: Easy to clean, modern and available in many colors.
• Fabric, microfiber and polyester: Soft, breathable covers that are ideal for cozy rooms, especially with upholstery in the seat.
• Leather and imitation leather: Noble and hard-wearing covers with a high level of seating comfort.

The covers are available in different versions, from robust microfiber, smooth and high-quality leather to textured fabric. So you can find exactly the chair that suits your style and room concept.

Comfort and ergonomics: the seat is what counts

A good skid-base chair not only impresses with its aesthetics and its really sturdy skids, but also with its seating comfort. Depending on the brand chosen, skid-base chairs have an ergonomically shaped seat shell, an upholstered backrest and a comfortable seat height that ensure relaxed sitting, even for long periods of time. This aspect is not only important from a comfort point of view, but also for a healthy back. If you spend a lot of time sitting on a skid-base chair, for example in meetings, conferences, presentations or in the waiting room, then the quality of the seat with upholstery, a backrest and armrests is of great importance to prevent back pain.

Many of the skid-base chairs on offer at Chairzone have additional upholstery, breathable fabrics and sturdy steel or metal frames. The load-bearing capacity is high and maintenance is easy, making them ideal for everyday use in living areas, as dining chairs or in meeting and waiting rooms, even for long periods of sitting.

Design and style: skid-base chairs as eye-catchers

In addition to all their advantages, skid-base chairs have a very special elegance. This depends not only on the design of the respective model, but also on the construction alone with its characteristic skid shape. It looks light, modern and stable at the same time. In addition, with a design classic with leather upholstery, a Scandinavian model with a wooden seat or an industrial eye-catcher with metal runners, you can bring some really beautiful pieces of jewelry into your home or office. At Chairzone, we offer products that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Our brands, including Sitag, Topstar, HAG and our own brand, stand for well thought-out designs, high-quality materials and durable construction. Many models are GS-tested and meet the highest safety standards. We also offer free delivery to your home or workplace.

Skid-base chair vs. classic chair shapes or swivel chairs

Compared to classic chairs with four legs, the skid-base chair offers a special shape that is both visually and functionally impressive. The continuous runners ensure a steady stance, prevent scratches on sensitive floors and give the chair a modern elegance.

If you are looking for a chair for your desk, we can recommend swivel chairs, office stools or executive chairs that can be adjusted in their seat height and, thanks to various technologies, ergonomic functions and structures, enable a significantly better sitting position. These are also available in different colors and materials and are delivered to you by Chairzone free of charge within Switzerland.

Classic 4-legged chairs and the elegant skid-base chair, on the other hand, are much better suited as a dining chair, as a chair for waiting areas and for conferences or meetings. While classic chairs often focus on functionality, the skid-base chair combines design, comfort and style, making it ideal for sophisticated interiors. Especially in open-plan living concepts or modern workspaces, skid-base chairs set clear design accents.
